Inspection Reports

The School has a superb track record of giving its pupils the very best start to their education and this has been highlighted in Wilmslow Prep’s Inspection Reports.

Links on this page will take you to the School’s last Inspection Reports undertaken in November 2014, June 2017, November 2021 and most recently November 2024 by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (the body approved by the Secretary of State to inspect many independent schools).

The latest inspection was undertaken by a team of three highly experienced inspectors. Their role is to assess and report on the extent to which the School meets the Independent Schools Standards (‘the standard’) in the Schedule to the Education (Independent School Standards) Regulations 2014.

The inspectors spent 2.5 days rigorously and extensively analysing all aspect of WPS including lesson observations, interviews with senior leaders, governors, teaching and non-teaching staff and pupils, reviews of processes and procedures, and feedback from parent, pupil, and staff questionnaires.

The key word in inspections is ‘triangulation’ i.e. do the School aims, and what the School’s leadership say, align with what is seen and experienced on a day to day basis by pupils and parents.

The new inspection report differs to that under the previous inspection framework, in that the school is no longer graded. Instead, the report states whether the school meets the five standards as well as identifying any next steps in its strategic planning.

We are delighted that the inspection report identifies that we meet all of the standards and is highly positive with regard to the quality of education, pastoral provision, safeguarding, pupils’ contribution to society and leadership at Wilmslow Prep School.

Here are a few highlights:

Understanding pupils’ needs

“Staff know pupils well and ensure that individual needs are understood and met.”

“Leaders model behaviours they expect of pupils so that pupils learn the importance of respecting and caring for others in school and the wider world.”

Extensive range of activities

The School received praise for engaging in an extensive range of activities outside of the school classroom and how “Teachers use a range of activities which help pupils to learn and make good progress.”

Strong literacy skills

The report highlighted pupils as ‘articulate speakers and attentive listeners’ stating that “They develop fluency and expression in their reading, enjoying the books that they read. Pupils use sophisticated language and structure to good effect in developing creative writing skills.”

Preparation for future education

“Pupils are provided with opportunities to gain knowledge, skills, and understanding they need in all subjects. Pupils make good progress and are well prepared for the next stages of their education both within and beyond the School.”
